While Vanessa covered Nefer’s eyes, Fren turned back to look at the painting. The elven family inside it still looked happy and close-knit. Fren raised a hand to gauge the painting’s size and said, “That’s enough, Vanessa.” Vanessa immediately lowered his hands. As soon as his vision cleared, Nefer studied Fren’s face. Fren radiated gentleness with his usual soft smile, while Vanessa’s expression was as stiff and blank as a statue. Nefer asked Vanessa, “Why did you cover my eyes?”
